すまないが、プレイできそうもない・・・

　以前にも書いたが、ピンク・フロイドはロック史上最も成功したロック・バンドのひとつだ・・・
メジャー・デビュー以降在籍していたメンバーは五人、バレットとギルモアが同い年で、あとの三人は
二つ年上の同い年だ。


　そもそもピンク・フロイドと言うバンド名は、バレットのアイデアでアメリカのブルース奏者だった
ピンク・アンダーソンとフロイド・カウンシルの名前を合体させたものらしい・・・



　バンドのフロントマンだったバレットが、ＬＳＤの影響であっちの世界に行ってしまったあとに
代役で加入したデヴィッド・ギルモアが、やがてバンドのフロントマンになって行く・・・





　しかし、７０年代に大作を次々に発表していた頃のバンドの主導権を握っていたのは、ほぼ全ての
作詞を担当していたウォーターズだった。


　そのウォーターズとバンド内で激しく対立していたのが、リチャード・ライトである・・・
確かに・・・ウォーターズの世界観や鋭い社会批判は、ピンク・フロイドの魅力のひとつなのだが、
ライトはもっと音楽的でエモーショナルな、バンドサウンドを望んでいた。


　あの歴史的大作ザ・ウォールの頃には、二人の対立は決定的となりライトは正式なメンバーから
外れていた・・・（このことが後に、ライト自身を救うことになるのだが・・・）



　ウォーターズ主導のザ・ウォール・ツアーは、コストを無視した完璧主義で貫かれバンドに巨額の
負債をもたらす・・・ウォーターズの独裁に嫌気がさしたメンバーはバラバラになり崩壊して行く。



　孤立したウォーターズはピンク・フロイドを終わらせるつもりで、脱退宣言をする・・・
自分がピンク・フロイドだとウォーターズは信じていたのだが、聴衆はギルモア主導のバンドを
熱狂で迎える・・・



　この後に起こるウォーターズの執拗な訴訟攻撃は、周知の通りである・・・





　２００６年７月７日、かつてのリーダーだったシド・バレットが死去。




　この訃報に触れ、バレットが去った後のピンク・フロイドの方向性を模索していた当時を思い
ギルモアとライトは、ピンク・フロイドのサウンドが最初に完成した・・・と思ったのはアルバム
おせっかいの中の一曲、エコーズだと述べている・・・




　２００６年のギルモア・ソロツアーにライトは全公演参加し、エコーズを演奏している
エンディングのギルモアのギターとライトのピアノの掛け合いに、涙が止まらないのは・・・
私だけではないだろう。



　ギルモアは、２００８年のツアーもライトの参加をオファーしていた・・・
しかしそれはかなうこと無く、一通のメールが残されていた。

２００８年９月１５日　リチャード・ライト　癌により死去　享年６５歳。

Latrobe valley residents protest over paper mill foreign workers

VANCOUVER – The Vancouver area's First Nations are angry about the closure of a paper mill.

Two-thirds of all paper production in northern British Columbia was done by local indigenous tribes. However, since 2006, a number of First Nations in northern Vancouver have been ordered to move their land to more profitable areas of the region where the paper mills won't go.

The communities are concerned about safety and the effects of the new paper mills on their traditional lands.

First Nations Minister of Finance Joe Ceci says the paper mills have been a disaster.

"We can see what has been lost in respect to the paper mills, what the impacts of the paper mills have been for our traditional lands."

Mr. Ceci says all communities want what they need, however to do so would be to "choke off the flow of capital that is so vital for the economic development of all of our communities."

The First Nations call for the government to re-evaluate the decision to close the two paper mills.

Some of the first signs of trouble came when First Nations from B.C. Premier Christy Clark's Liberal government refused to sign the agreements signed between the paper mill companies and First Nations.

"We want to put our concerns to the government of Canada and make their position clear," said John Wilson from the Northern B.C. Alliance of Chiefs of Canada.

Nsw to tighten security foi laws to avoid terrorist attack

The Australian Federal Police and the New South Wales Police force have joined forces to take down a pair of suspected Australian terror suspects who planned to travel to Somalia and bomb Australia's parliament.

Police believe Ahmad Shukrabi and Mohamed Harkat both traveled from New Zealand to Australia for training purposes. But police say they didn't arrive in Australia because Shukrabi did not have proper documentation. Police also say they believe Harkat did not know he had entered Australia.

The pair are believed to have planned to attack parliament. Harkat was originally arrested in September 2008 for the bombings at a beach party in the northern state of New South Wales in 2003, which killed 17 people. Harkat has since returned to the Netherlands, where authorities have taken a renewed interest in him after his brother had left to Syria.

Australian police said the FBI had assisted them with their investigation, though police have never said whether they had anything to do with the arrest of Harkat and Shukrabi.

"The AFP assisted with our investigations, but I'm still awaiting a determination by their counterparts on the New South Wales police branch and other Australian federal government law enforcement," New South Wales Police said in a statement.

Police said they had spoken to several people who had been in contact with Shukrabi and Harkat, but the pair had not been in contact for some time.

The two were believed to be about to return to Australia to join the jihad in Somalia before the brothers arrived in Sydney, the Australian Federal Police said.

'An urgent inquiry'

At about 3:30 p.m. (2130 GMT Wednesday) Thursday, police said they had arrested Harkat on the outskirts of Sydney. A search on his apartment confirmed his detention, but he was released without charge.

Shukrabi had been under police guard all day. As he arrived at the New South Wales Police station at 8:30 a.m., police said, he tried to escape but was arrested.

"He was under observation and is under routine surveillance in connection with an individual identified as being connected to an Islamic State terrorist group," the AFP said.

Harkat had taken an oath to fight against Australia before coming to Australia. His mother and father have also been arrested on terrorism charges.

Police had released images on Tuesday showing Harkat wearing what looked like bomb-making kit, which may have come from the United States.

Teen arsonist jailed over bushfires.

A woman who lit fires last month on farmland in southern New South Wales was sentenced to 16 months' jail for arson.

The woman, who was not named, had planned to make the fires and intentionally set a fire on land belonging to farmers, an emergency medical technician, livestock and sheep.

The court heard Ms Taylor, from St Peters, told the fire crews she would like to put out the fires, but they refused her.

The court heard Ms Taylor had also promised to make firewood for the farm she was arsonising, but it is unclear what she had done after they refused to allow her to do so.

Crown prosecutor Daniel Molloy said the women's "criminal act against the Australian people and our collective economy has seriously damaged our environment, our economy, and our society".

They have breached trust, created an ecological disaster, and damaged the landscape... because of their criminal behaviour, his argument was, is that we have gone too far," Justice John Nevin said.

He sentenced the woman to 16 months behind bars for the arson of property belonging to farmers and livestock.
